Latest news and hints & tips from the world of Plastering and Rendering

In some much needed down time, following the completion of a number of big projects in and around the area. We were only too happy to take a look inside new Southport Market recently, after it opened to the public for the first time following its £1.4million refurb.

Southport’s newest attraction officially opened its doors at the end of July, it has seen the creation of around 100 new jobs and will lead the regeneration of the ‘Market Quarter’ area of town.

The new facility follows the huge success of similar markets across the North West, including Altrincham Market, Baltic Market in Liverpool and Mackie Mayor in Manchester.

The scheme has been led by Sefton Council, supported by funding through the Southport Town deal and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. This development will breathe new life into the long-established market to offer something big, bold and wonderful for the seaside town.

Such additions have contributed to increased visitor numbers in the town this year, with more than 5m people have visited Southport so far this year – 16.6% up on the pandemic year of 2020 but also 5.1% higher than the same point in 2019.

Total number of visitors to the town for the year to date is 5,065,024. Southport is doing well compared to other areas of the country. Overall, visitor numbers to the North and Yorkshire is still down 14% on 2019 and 21.7% down for the whole of the UK. The latest footfall figures were compiled by Springboard Research.

Being a local company, and passionate about all things Southport, we are delighted to see the town doing well, and long may it continue into the future.

We have recently completed a job in Birkdale, Southport that we are proud as punch off. We felt it was only right to share it with you.

The job in question proved difficult at first as the existing render on this property had been left on for too long. But in the end our experience and professionalism shone through and we managed to successfully complete the project to a high standard.

For this project, the product that we used was a fassacouche, fassa bortolo. Fassacouche, is a OC2 class semi-lightweight through-coloured render which, thanks to a special formulation, boasts unique and top-quality characteristics, such as a constant and homogenous mix, an excellent yield and resistance of the colours to the fading over time.

It acts as both a base and coloured finish coat and can be used on both new and existing buildings, it's also available in 24 different shades.

Working with Fassa Bortolos technical rep, we used their over base coat with a mesh to get over the existing painted render.

To finish the job, we scraped textured flat finish, in the colour gray perle as chosen by the customer, who was absolutely delighted and over the moon with the final results.

Check out some of the photos of the job below.

We were absolutely delighted to see the dedication to Plastering from new Premier League Darts champion Jonny Clayton.

The 46-year-old took the top £250,000 prize thanks to his superb wins over Michael van Gerwen in the semis and then Jose de Sousa in the final at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

It has been an incredible few months for the Ferret, winning the World Cup of Darts in November 2020 and the Masters in January, which saw him grab the final spot in the Premier League, which he has now won.

Those three tournament success have seen him claim nearly £350,000, but he is still going back to plastering in the coming days, but maybe not for much longer after that.

‘I have to go to work on Tuesday and then I’ll think about that,’ he said after beating De Sousa 11-5. ‘I don’t know, but I’ll be thinking hard.’

After winning the Masters earlier this year, Clayton told The Darts Show Podcast: ‘I genuinely don’t know. There’s nothing broke, so why should I try to fix it? I’ve always played darts as a hobby, and I’ve always worked. So it’s a big decision.

‘I don’t know. Yes, I’d have more time to practice. But will it make that difference? I quite enjoy working, so I genuinely don’t know how to answer that question.

‘It is quite hard. Obviously I’ve got to take my time off work and things like that. But it is what it’s going to be. I might finish work, I might not.’

On what he will do with the biggest prize of his career so far, by a long way, he wasn’t too sure, saying: ‘I haven’t had it yet so I don’t know. When I get it, I’ll let you know.

‘I don’t know, I don’t think that far ahead. I’ll spend a bit of it, but that’s about it.

‘I’ll take everything as it comes and hopefully a few more titles, especially the Worlds. Let’s see.’

It has been a long and slow build for the Welshman, but he feels that an awful lot of hard work is finally paying off.

‘You don’t get gifted this, you have to work hard to get to a Premier League stage, so hopefully I’m back next year,’ he joked.

‘I’ve watched TV, Premier Leagues, PDC darts, to be a name in it is fantastic, but to win a massive title like this is a dream come true.

‘It’s the standard of play. Not everybody sees the floor tournaments, that’s where the hard work builds up.

‘That’s a massive part of darts, the averages on the floor are phenomenal. To carry it onto the stage, it all begins on that floor.’

We really love your dedication to plastering Jonny. We know how you feel. All the best in your future whatever you decide to do.

We always hit the spot.
